The Comedy Knights!!!

Comedy shows have been an ingrained part of our Indian television circuit, since inception. The humor phenomena blossomed through witty sit-coms like “Wagle ki Duniya”, “Shriman Shrimati”, “Dekh Bhai Dekh”,”Ji Mantri Ji”, “Office-Office”, “Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai” and “Khichdi” etc. But the last decade saw an evolution from the format of “Sit-Coms” to “Reality-Based Comedy Shows”.

Popularity of reality-based comedy shows started with the success of “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” and the mantle was taken ahead by “Comedy Circus”. Recently, “Comedy Nights with Kapil” took the viewers by storm with unchallenged popularity.

My favorites in this phenomenon are the two giants of comedy circuit, Raju Srivastav and Kapil Sharma. Raju Srivastava has an eagle’s eye as a humorist and also an ability to create humor from the daily chores. Kapil Sharma’s strength lies in Quick-wit and spontaneity while interacting with characters/celebrities/audience around him.

Moreover, with emergent social media, I would like to mention the satirists like “The Viral Fever” and “All India Bakchod”. They have been creating several spoofs and youth-based humors, which have been widely shared in social media.

Which have been your favorite comedy shows and humorists? Share your experience!

  1. dekh bhai dekh and sarabhai vs sarabhai hands down the best comedy shows ever.
As for the comedy circus and laughter challenge types of shows goes….let me tell you a secret…which am sure you are aware of…they are all scripted. On what basis am I saying this, Mantra is an ex-classmate of mine and when I asked him why his first show at comedy circus was better than the second one he said ” yaar scripted hai and editing main punches nikaal diye!” …soo there you go!
